FOR OPEN-SOURCE AUTHORS

Put a paywall on your Skill’s advanced features.

Your Skill stays open source on GitHub. Frely puts a paywall in front of its advanced features. Here is what your users see.

SKILLS

Free to start. A pass for the advanced part.

Your Skill installs into the user’s own AI with one pasted prompt. The open-source part just works; at an advanced feature, the user buys a pass at your price.

  1. The user pastes your install prompt into their own AI. It installs the Skill.
  2. Free: the open-source part answers right away.
  3. Paid: the advanced feature asks for a pass at your price.
  4. With the pass, the sealed script runs and the result comes back to the chat.
  5. When the pass ends, the open-source part keeps working; the sealed script stops until it’s renewed.

AGENTS

Paid first. Then your Agent works.

A user installs your Agent in their own AI with one pasted prompt. When they ask it to work, Frely asks for payment first, then runs it and sends the result back.

  1. The user pastes your install prompt into their own AI. It installs the Agent.
  2. It’s installed. They ask the Agent to do a job.
  3. Before it runs, Frely asks for your per-use price or a pass.
  4. They pay, and the Agent runs on Frely.
  5. The result comes back into their chat.

FAQ

Questions from open-source authors

How does Frely protect my Skill from being copied?

Paid scripts are sealed on the buyer’s device and run only while their pass is valid; when the pass ends they stop. A Skill still runs on the buyer’s device, so a determined person can extract it. If the content must stay private, publish it as a hosted Agent: your prompts and logic stay on Frely and users only receive the result.

Do I have to change my open-source repo or its license?

No. Your repo stays as it is and the open-source part keeps working for everyone. The advanced files behind the paywall are not in the repo; you upload them separately.

What does my user need to do?

Install the Frely CLI in their own AI and sign in to Frely, then buy a pass when they reach an advanced feature. The open-source part does not need Frely.

What happens when a pass ends?

The open-source part keeps working. Sealed paid scripts stop running until the pass is renewed.

Do paying users get new versions?

Yes. After you publish a new version, users with a valid pass install it again. Nothing is pushed to them automatically.

Should I publish a Skill or an Agent?

Choose a Skill when users run it in their own AI and bear the model cost. Choose a hosted Agent when the content must stay private or you want to charge per use; its model cost is covered by your plan.
